Read our numerous entries about those in the past who have tried to produce wood survey stakes in Florida Currently we are getting numerous calls from wholesalers wanting cheap stakes to resell to their supply yard customers, these are items that are low-cost, heavy, carry little markup, require handling equipment to move and only allow so much markup before they become priced out of the market, yet these suppliers will continue to scratch their head and try to talk yet another person into producing wood stakes for them without telling them their last three suppliers have gone belly up.

Where are they now?

We can name over a dozen stake companies that have come and gone in the last few years. Florida land surveyors have been burned too many times by companies promising to supply them with wood stakes and lath. Lets list a few of them below.
1.Florida Survey Stakes.com
2.Affordable Survey Solutions
3.Prime Stakes
4.Gulf Coast Survey Supply
5.Cheap Stakes
6.Commodore Trading
7.The Stake Company
8.Eagle Stakes
9.Ruffs Saw and Tool
10.Delray Stake
11.Jonas Survey Stakes
12.Southern Stake
13.BG Stake Company
14.Stakes-n-Stuff
15.Florida Survey Supplies
16.Quest of Orlando
17.D&G Stake Company
18.MacDonald Center
19.B&E Stakes
20.Goulad Stakes

Ask yourself this simple question “Where was your stake supplier 5 or 10 years ago? Where will they be 15 years from now?”

We are getting numerous calls again from past customers in Plant City, Lakeland, Orlando and other areas that are having difficulty getting wood stakes from their small supplier. Stakemill is also a small supplier, but one that has been around long enough to know we take care of those who keep us as their supplier when wood shortages appear. We gladly accept new customers, we do require the first order to be prepaid and can establish terms for customer that order within two month periods. We are unable to offer terms for non active accounts, we do apologize for this and suggest you look at our entire product line so you can order from us on a regular basis should you desire to have open account terms. Stakemill is one of the largest suppliers of survey flagging, marking paint, field journals, survey accessories and replacement batteries so we know you can use us on a regular basis.

Just over a year after the above entry we have been informed the small one man operation selling on eBay is closing shop. We had always commented this is our industry and if they can't make it how can we. It is partly due to the fact most of these start ups are an employee of a larger operation breaking off on there own and trying to get the suppliers to favor them and the customers to switch suppliers. I think too many vendors have now been burned by non payment from these small operations and the end users have also been burned by poor performance from these basement run businesses. We have to say we are pleased with the outcome of this recent individual that made up a name so he could not be held accountable for his bad debt and the fact two large suppliers picked him as their preferred dealer for the Pinellas County area. We feel we picked the stronger instrument and software supplier and feel that is one of the reasons we have seen an increase in our sales for the first part of 2013.
One thing we hoped our customers learn is that you get what you pay for and buying off eBay and Amazon can meet outdated, bootleg or refurbished survey instruments and software. These people are able to shut down there business as easy as they could open one leaving only the customer short changed.
